Dotty Kirwin (Libby’s mother) is a New Jersey native who came to Newport as a bride almost 42 years ago. She says, “I will never forget first seeing Newport as we came off the ferry. I thought I had gone back in time to a place filled with fabulous architecture, the most charming historic homes with enormous fireplaces and extraordinary doors and windows all lined up so close to each other on cobblestone streets in a town that was immersed in history. I was hooked immediately.” Having moved from an area in New Jersey where every free parcel of land had been developed into a shopping mall, Dotty saw Newport as virtually untouched, except for the “new bridge” which was under construction at the time. All of the shops were tiny specialty stores; the dress shop, the hat shop, one bakery, one pizzeria, the enchanting Ley’s Century Store with its creaky wooden floors, the linen shop and of course the incredible tree-lined Bellevue Avenue. In the 1970s, Dotty and her husband purchased a number of vacant properties and rehabbed them into charming apartments which today are condominiums. It wasn’t until 20 years later that Dotty got licensed to sell Real Estate. With a passion for interior design, Dotty combines her keen eye for design with her innate sales ability to sell homes throughout Rhode Island. A Newport resident, Dotty’s enthusiasm for Real Estate is unparalleled- and further, is so helpful when working with first time buyers who need some extra “TLC.” Throughout her extensive career in Real Estate, Dotty has grown to love the art of the deal as well as the delight of the Buyer and Seller when the dotted line is signed.
